Full Job Description

As a Senior Technical Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You will be making a difference to keep our fleet at sea and will help deliver continuous availability of critical equipment on both surface ships and submarines.

Day to day, you'll investigate and resolve technical queries from a variety of sources and raise and answer S2022 forms through the Maritime Collaborative Working Environment via the Surface Ship Definition Database (SSDD) and Submarine definition Database (SDD) against scope of the contracts supported, as well as:

  • Develop and implement design and support improvements, such as Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) actions, to identify cost/lead-time/availability improvements.

  • Resolve obsolescence issues identified by the Obsolescence Manager, applying the most appropriate resolution to gain the maximum benefit to the project.

  • Perform Unit Maintenance Management System (UMMS) monitoring and suggest changes to improve the reliability of assets.

  • Assist in maintaining a technical document library. This includes reviewing and updating Books of Reference (BRs) and Illustrated Parts Catalogues (IPCs).


  • This role is full-time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.

  • Experience of working on operational marine systems including sea water systems (pumps), domestics equipment, hydraulics, switch gear, control systems and motors.

  • A good understanding of asset and configuration management.

  • Knowledge of obsolescence resolution techniques

  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.

  • Ability to produce concise reports., Relevant electrical engineering qualification such as degree/equivalent, or equivalent experience and advantageous.

  • Ideally have IEng status or working towards professional registration.


  • Security Clearance

    The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
