Our Maritime team are experiencing a rapid growth in the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for analysis of wave loads on coastal structures, overtopping assessments, scour and rock protection design, ship mooring studies, floating vessel response, hydraulic structures performance and thermal dispersion modelling.
To meet this growth we are looking for a Principal CFD modeller to join our established maritime modelling team to drive application and innovation of CFD to our current and future portfolio of projects and opportunities.
The successful person will become part of a respected and ambitious company with excellent career prospects and international opportunities including major projects within the renewables, oil and gas, maritime transport and coastal resilience markets.

The role will include:
Working as part of a national CFD team the role will involve:

  • Providing a Technical Lead and review role on projects involving CFD modelling including wave loads on coastal structures, overtopping analysis, assessment of floating bodies, industrial outfalls and intakes, hydraulic structure design and thermal dispersion modelling

  • Supervising, assisting and developing junior CFD modellers within the UK national team working with other experts within the business

  • Managing the preparation of technical reports. Undertaking checking / reviewing of reports prepared by others

  • Project Managing modelling projects / tasks orders, assuming delivery on time and within budget

  • Support our CFD lead with the preparation of scopes and budgets for execution of CFD activities both for internal and external Clients

  • Leading the Maritime strategy for the technology required to increase capability and grow the business, for example: cloud computing, software, hardware, training etc.

  • Providing company-wide expertise and support the development of CFD for fluvial, coastal and provide international expertise, link with Academic institutions and develop relationships that support the research and development of new CFD applications and capability.


  • Here's what you'll need:
  • Extensive experience in CFD maritime/coastal applications in a commercial environment.

  • Track record of research publication in the application of CFD in relevant maritime / coastal markets.

  • Excellent knowledge and practice of modelling software e.g. OpenFoam, Ansys CFX etc

  • A degree in a relevant discipline ideally with a relevant Masters degree or higher.

  • Computer programming skills e.g. Python, Matlab, C etc

  • Chartered with CIWEM, ICE or other relevant organisation Good leadership, supervision and mentoring skills,

  • Experience of liaising with Clients and managing projects,

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present and communicate confidently and effectively with colleagues and clients

  • Right to work in the UK.
