Full Job Description
Status: Part Time/Sessional Worker:1 - 2 evenings per week (3 - 9 hours) term time & the option of shifts during school holidays (6 - 18 hours), The role of a youth worker requires a committed and confident individual who brings creativity, energy and strong youth engagement skills to support young people's development. The role requires working as a team to provide diversionary activities to engage and mentor young people.
- To offer supervision and guidance in structured activities.
- To provide a positive role model to young people.
- To support young people in the development of leadership skills.
- To encourage young people to develop a sense of community and belonging.
- To ensure all equipment is properly stored at the end of each session.
- To ensure facilities are left clean and tidy at the end of every session., To work as part of a team to deliver youth clubs / after school clubs for young people both Primary and Secondary School aged.
- To establish relationships of trust and mutual respect with young people and to offer them support and encouragement.
- To be a good communicator who is able to relate to young people in a positive way and have an understanding and empathy of their situations and issues.
- To assist your line manager and your colleagues to establish and maintain reasonable boundaries and discipline.
- To keep session assessment records and, if requested, to assist in producing reports based on this information.
- To work within the Conquer Life CIC and local area safeguarding and child protection procedures and policies. Promoting a culture and environment at all times where young people feel safe and protected.
- To attend regular review, supervisions and planning meetings with your line manager
- To attend any training identified as necessary by your line manager as part of your personal development programme.
- To adhere to the organisations policies at all times, with particular emphasis on Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety and Child Protection.
- To report any behaviour, conversations or comments which are inappropriate within a setting for children and young people.
Enhanced DBS (post is subject to satisfactory DBS check) - Youth Work Qualification (Desirable)
- First Aid Qualification (Desirable), Excellent communication skills
- Ability to engage with groups of young people
- Ability to resolve conflicts calmly
- Can put youth work principles into practice.
- Can deliver effective outcomes for young people.
- Can break down barriers for young people, Experience of delivering activities with young people (Desirable)
- Experience of working with young with people who display challenging behaviour
- Experience developing and building relationships with young people
- Knowledge of issues affecting young people
- An understanding of the methods of youth work delivery (Desirable)
- Knowledge of Health and Safety, Diversity Awareness and Safeguarding best practice and how these relate to young people and staff.

Note for candidates
This sessional post is to cover shifts Monday - Friday evenings during term time. There are guaranteed hours to start immediately on Thursday evenings 6-9pm, with more available for the right candidate.
Experience is not essential as full training can be provided. We are looking to find a candidate with the right personal qualities to succeed in this role.,
