Full Job Description

Responsible for operating the Whitetower portfolio of plants in line with commercial requirements and business procedures, as well as maintaining compliance with statutory health, safety, and environmental provisions. The Operations Technician will be involved in working with and assisting in improving the operational systems and processes.

Primary Functions

  • Operating the plant to ensure compliance with appropriate safety and environmental standards, and statutory requirements.

  • Performing start-up, shut-down, and normal operations of power plant systems.

  • Carrying out plant-related routine duties to ensure plant commercial performance, availability, and reliability are maintained to a high level.

  • Plant & control system first-line fault diagnosis and reporting considering all aspects of safety of persons and process safety.

  • Application of relevant operational standards.

  • Routine reporting of operational events and providing information to support site maintenance activities.

  • Responsibility for producing and maintaining identified site(s) documentation and procedures.

  • Liaising with internal, external customers, and third-party suppliers.

  • Optimising commercial opportunities through plant operation.

    Working Relationships

    Operations Technicians report to the Duty Shift Team Leader and will be expected to proactively engage with resources across the organisation including field team staff.

    Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

    Physical requirements include the possibility of standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing, routinely lifting up to 15 kg, and when necessary, use a respirator.

    Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, gloves, and high voltage protective equipment etc.). Working with hazardous materials may be required. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

    Travel

    The role occasionally requires travel to all fleet locations to support wider business activities across the Whitetower business.

    Fitness for Duty

    All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.

    Work Schedule

    The role is shift-based, and the technician will be expected to cover a 24/7 shift pattern to cover operational requirements.

  • Experience in Power Plant Operations: Demonstrated experience in the operation of power generation assets or similar industrial processes, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and statutory standards.

  • Technical Proficiency: Proven ability to perform start-up, shut-down, and routine operations of power plant systems, along with a solid understanding of plant-related duties to maintain commercial performance, availability, and reliability.

  • Strong skills in plant and control system fault diagnosis and reporting, with a comprehensive understanding of safety protocols and process safety considerations.

  • Appreciation of the commercial aspects of the power generation business, including optimizing commercial opportunities through plant operation.

  • Display good teamwork and interpersonal skills, working flexibly within a small team, and effectively liaising with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in IT, including numeracy and literacy skills, to effectively utilize computerized systems and maintain documentation.

  • Ability to rigorously follow procedures, instructions, and processes, ensuring adherence to operational and safety protocols.

  • Operations or Engineering qualification, or study towards an engineering qualification, providing a solid foundation in plant operations and maintenance.

  • Working knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environmental regulatory requirements, along with an understanding of power station operations, technical procedures, and safety rules.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License at all times., Preferred

    Initial starting compensation will range from £46,520 to £69,780 (inclusive of shift pay) dependant on experience., The role includes:
