Full Job Description

Your normal hours of work are 40 hours per week, 4 days a week. Due to the particular needs of the business we need to operate a rota system, therefore there are no normal times of work applicable to you and your daily hours, start and finish times will vary from time to time on a rota system. The rota operates Monday to Friday inclusive. In addition, you may also be required to participate in a weekend rota and/or an out of hour.

We are able to fully support a new graduate. There will be no sole charge and always another Vet on hand for advice or support if needed. Our experienced Nurses can also assist with practical skills such as blood sampling, iv catheter placements etc. We can tailor surgical support to the individual and enable a gradual improvement and confidence over time in a safe environment. We are all keen to discuss cases and learn from one another. Once the VetGDP and graduate academy programme have been completed we believe our graduate will be able to work independently and confidently and are happy to offer support if they wish to pursue further qualifications.

We are a friendly and supportive team working within a purpose build single site in Lichfield. Lichfield is a historic cathedral city and well located in the centre of the country. It has excellent train and motorway links to major cities including Birmingham and London. Birmingham and East Midlands airports are within easy reach. Lichfield has a strong arts and music culture with a theatre and many festivals throughout the year. There is a regular market in the attractive city centre and a good range of shops, cafes and restaurants. Just a short distance away is Cannock Chase, an area of outstanding natural beauty and a wonderful escape from the day to day.

We have a fantastic practice with plenty of natural light and air conditioning throughout the building. We have in house haematology and biochemistry, urinalysis, microscopy, routine multiparameter anaesthetic monitoring, ultrasonography and digital x-ray. Nurses with certificates in feline behaviour and nutrition. Our wonderful team is made up of 3 full time Vets - all first opinion and all do both consulting and surgical and 5 experienced RVNs - all 5+ years qualified.

We offer a safe environment to learn in and our clients are friendly with a high
proportion of insured animals allowing us to investigate and work up cases to a high level, we ensure case continuity enabling us to build good relationships with our clients. We have weekly Vet meetings to discuss cases and open up discussions for clinical improvement, always open to new ideas and keen to maintain/improve our equipment. We have a good supply of books and BSAVA manuals for research. We have a dedicated euthanasia room and offer detailed end of life support to our patients and follow up bereavement calls. We support one another both professionally and personally - we truly are a work family.
