Full Job Description

This is a rewarding and challenging role which is integral to the enjoyable running of the summer programme. Social Activities Officers (SAOs) are responsible for the safe running of the students' activity sessions which include daytime activities like sports as well as museum visits and punting in Cambridge. SAOs also supervise and lead evening activities and weekend day excursions. Students should be encouraged to practice their spoken English during activities.

SAOs typically are University-age students returning during the summer. This is not typically but could also be a residential role, and candidates normally live in Cambridge or within easy commuting distance. However, there is some residential accommodation available for anyone interested in this position who may be in need of some lodging. We also run a parallel, residential international summer course for Junior students aged between 8-12 years old at our site near Bury St. Edmund's.

Responsible to: Social Activities Leader (SAL) and Centre Director (CD).

Liaise with: Other SAOs and Teaching Assistants (TAs).

Are you a good team player? We are looking for some students with an active interest and/or specialism in PE & Sports., Qualifications (Desirable criteria): University student or graduate. / Some form of Sports coaching or PE certificate / Experience coaching sports to young people.

Skills (Desirable):

  • Experience leading group activities

  • Experience communicating with non-native speakers of English

  • Knowledge of Health and Safety issues

  • Good organizational skills

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with a range of age groups

  • Enthusiastic and works well in teams.

  • Leadership qualities and works well under pressure.

  • An active interest in sports (coaching) and some experience in organizing PE/sports sessions would be an advantage.

    £8.70 - £11.50 an hour - Temporary contract, Hours of work: Up to 46 (Monday-Friday, with one weekend day per week)
