Full Job Description

The post is offered to a fully qualified candidate who will be issued with the full band 7 JD, or to a candidate who meets the majority of the criteria and will attain their Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical or Hospital Pharmacy as a condition of appointment under Annex 21. The post holder will be required to undertake up to an 18 month training/development programme upon commencement of this role, with an aim to attain their Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical or Hospital Pharmacy. Upon successful attainment of the Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical or Hospital Pharmacy qualification, even if sooner than the 18 month allocated time frame, the post holder will automatically move to the Band 7 as they will then meet the full KSF outline of this role and be expected to undertake all duties within this Specialist Clinical Pharmacist Job Description as indicated.
NOTE: There will be some circumstances where current staff apply for these posts, and their new trainee salary will be below that of their current salary. To aid both the recruitment and development of staff it is recommended that staff across NHS Wales should have continuity of pay for the duration of the training to avoid financial detriment. This should apply when staff take up training posts both within and across NHS Wales organisations . Following this training, the remuneration will be the bottom of Band 7, again without financial detriment.
In this role you will develop greater autonomy and responsibility. Our team based working model will allow you to collaborate with more senior and junior colleagues, whilst also having opportunity to lead clinical ward services. Opportunities to work towards advanced practice and credentialing will be available, including the non-medical prescribing qualification. An exciting Health Board wide re-design of surgical services is underway. Plans include the addition of a new diagnostic and elective surgical hub next to the Royal Glamorgan hospital site.
Working closely with our teams of highly experienced pharmacists and technicians you will participate in the clinical ward service, building on your clinical experience, providing a core clinical pharmacy service to a range of surgical Specialities including General Surgery, Urology, ENT, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Surgical Admissions and Elective Admissions. You will also gain experience in working within the critical care environments, e.g Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) and ICU. Opportunity to train in additional clinical areas, outside of surgery, may also be offered. You will also have the opportunity to undertake roles in the provision of education and training.
You will possess excellent communication skills, a passion for improvement and patient focused care.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
