Full Job Description

One YMCA are extending a sector leading and welcoming café, your role will be to support the Café Manager in delivering a robust and professional experience for the Woodlands customers enhancing all activities in the park and across our community of Herts/Beds and Bucks, so will need to drive when required for Catering purposes.,

  • Make a contribution to providing an excellent service to our customers, with a passionate and enthusiastic approach.

  • Day to Day cleaning, making coffee, some food prep duties, clearing tables, computerised tilling system, organising the team and completing staffing rotas.

  • Have an inclusive approach to supporting the Manager to create an ethos where cross department projects are welcomed. Supporting life skills training within the organisation.

  • To ensure One YMCA's approach to H&S is in place to capture, monitor and mitigate against risk.

  • Uphold the Food Safety Policy and support fellow colleagues to follow the food handler's guidelines and complete all documentation.

  • Be a role model in all aspects of service, standards and approach to task.

  • Ensure the cleaning schedules are completed to the highest standards.

  • Show integrity for security and maintenance of the café including the outside areas reporting any findings to the manager.

  • Understand the Café priorities and contribute daily.

  • Support the Manager to deliver community functions, flexibility within contracted hours will be required on occasion as will attending sites across Herts/ Beds and Bucks.

  • To ensure all payments are completed within One YMCA,s financial regulations.

  • Key Holder responsibility.

  • Seeking opportunities for contributing to sustainable development of the commitment to making One YMCA a cleaner, greener organisation. Demonstrating good environmental practice (such as energy efficiency, use of sustainable materials, sustainable transport, recycling and waste reduction)

  • A keen interest in the provision of mentoring opportunities for local young people as we currently support many work experience programmes.

    We are looking for an experienced hospitality specialist who goes the extra mile, leading the team in the absence of the Manager to deliver excellent presentation standards on site at all times, influence sales across beverages and food, always putting the customer at the heart of everything they do, Barista experience would be an advantage.


  • This will require a combination of skill, knowledge and enthusiasm to deliver maximum community benefits whilst ensuring sustainability is maintained and support the growth plan with a flexible approach to achieve and exceed.

    One YMCA and its subsidiaries, the Early Childhood Partnership (ECP) and Signpost are on an exciting journey to double our impact by 2025. We are over half way through an exciting new strategy launched in the first hour of the new decade, via email where all staff and volunteers were invited to put themselves forward to apply and attend an intensive, three-day Kickstarter Event.

    By the end of these three days, there was a brilliantly multi-faceted set of themes and ideas, which formed the starting point for the rest of the Mission 25 process to build on. The aim of Mission 25 is to give every staff member and volunteer the opportunity to play their part in shaping the strategy to do "more and better, together" so that we double our impact by 2025. We deliver a vast array of services across Herts, Beds and Bucks that reach over 135,000 individuals annually.

  • Provision of over 700 units of accommodation for homeless people

  • Move on accommodation for individuals moving onto independent living

  • Housing and practical/emotional support for young asylum seekers

  • Community HUBs hosting a range of activities and meeting space hire

  • Childcare provision in Hertfordshire

  • Family support through a network of children's and family centres covering Hertfordshire and Bedford

  • Therapeutic and non-therapeutic support for male and female victims of domestic abuse and their children

  • Independent sexual violence services across Bedfordshire, Luton and Hertfordshire

  • Domestic abuse perpetrator reform programmes across Bedfordshire

  • Youth services offering emotional wellbeing support and youth club opportunities for 11-19 year olds alongside our National Airplay programme funded by the RAF Benevolent Fund
