Full Job Description

ESG Group are seeking an experienced Transport Manager to oversee our busy and diverse Transport and Logistics Department. The ideal candidate will be well versed in planning, compliance, procurement and budgeting along with exceptional leadership skills.

The Transport Manager will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing the full operation of the transport department.

  • Managing Operator's License to required legislative standards.

  • Ensuring full legislative compliance and adherence to internal policy & procedures.

  • Management of approximately 15 plus personnel within the transport operations team and drivers.

  • Fleet management of approximately 35 plus assets, inclusive of HGV, Van, Company Cars & Forklift/ Moffett.

  • Fully responsible for both compliance & best practice.

  • Periodic & routine maintenance on all assets, plus management of internal & external / breakdowns.

  • Transport planning and arranging ad hoc external transport support where required.

  • Health and Safety for the department and H&S training such as toolbox talks.

  • Excellent knowledge of transport legislation, WTD/drivers' hours/ Digital Tachograph.

  • Proven experience in procurement & budgeting for department.

  • Developing, mentoring & motivating the transport team.

  • HR practices for the transport team, such as performing 121's, appraisals, disciplinaries & familiarisation training.

  • Overseeing and auditing transport operations compliance, escalating and recommending solutions for any issues - vehicle tax, insurance, traffic violations, camera incidents, ULEZ, Dart tag, MOT.

  • Supporting the team in organising the best cost solutions for contracted transport solutions.

  • Proactively managing operational planning activities to ensure contractual obligations for customers are achieved, proposing improvements as necessary

  • Liaising with internal stakeholders when in driver downtime to ensure resource is fully occupied.

  • Managing the financial efficiency of the transport operation, meeting/exceeding budget targets.

    Transport CPC managers qualification. (National/ International Freight CPC).

  • A minimum of 3 years previous transport management experience.

  • Proven experience in route planning and planning tools (e.g. Mandata)

  • Proven experience of transport compliance, auditing and administration.

  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced department, making key decisions.

  • Ability to work within a diverse & challenging environment.

  • Have a proactive approach to increasing business & working relationships.

  • Demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills.

  • Experience within the manufacturing industry - Desirable but not essential.

  • Previous HGV experience/licence - Desirable but not essential.

  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel

  • Excellent level of accuracy, numeracy & literacy

  • Proven leadership experience, How many years management experience do you have?

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: £35,000.00-£42,000.00 per year
