Full Job Description

We are looking for a Farmoor Site Warden (Fishery Ranger) to join us permanently.

You will be operating the visitor facilities at the Farmoor Reservoir for anglers, birdwatchers and other recreational users on behalf of Thames Water. You will help promote, manage, and interpret the access and recreational offer of the site to visitors, and promote Thames Water to them. You will contribute towards the development of facilities and improving and monitoring performance, especially of the fisheries. You will also support partnerships with external stakeholder groups and work closely with Operations and other staff in the Conservation, Access, and Recreation section.

What you will be doing as a Site Warden (Fishery Ranger)

+ Run the visitor facilities on agreed shift rota supporting all activity types including permit sales, visitor management and behaviour enforcement, shop sales, promoting the site and TW to visitors, and helping them gain a good visitor experience; fishery, and general site development, and conservation and recreation operation and maintenance as required; and supporting educational visits.
+ Help run events as required.
+ Manage equipment and visitor facilities including signage, car parks, equipment hired to customers, and boats.
+ Contribute to planning and running the shop, including selecting and procuring stock lines, displays and selling. Support agreed on refreshment arrangements.
+ Plan and implement maintenance for visitor facilities e.g. signs, fencing, toilets, paths and boats, including supervising contractors as agreed.
+ Keep the site in a clean, safe, and tidy state that presents a good image of Thames Water.
+ Undertake regular reservoir inspections as required. (Farmoor)
+ Support monitoring agreed visitor facilities for H&S, accessibility, presentational quality, and performance as agreed.
+ Support monitoring and recording performance of the facilities against agreed targets, including finances, visitor numbers feedback, and catch rates, as requested by the line manager. Contribute to the annual report for the site. All as agreed.
+ Support events to promote the recreational activities of the site and interpret its interest.
+ Support other team members to help achieve team goals and consult and cooperate with other members of the CAR section.
+ Other tasks as reasonably requested by the line manager.
+ Operate in compliance with Thames Water policies and procedures including wearing a uniform, PPE and ID as required by the line manager.

+ Having recognised fisheries qualification is desirable.
+ At least six months experience of access/recreation ranger work on visitor sites or fishery management work or wildlife site work; or a relevant ranger/recreation management or fishery management qualification.
+ Evidence of ideas and innovations to develop recreation sites for visitors; or fisheries.
+ Enthusiasm to support the development of a recreational visitor site.
+ Good interpersonal skills including the ability to quickly build a rapport with the public.
+ Willingness to be an enthusiastic ambassador for TW to the public.
+ Enthusiasm to support course/game anglers during their visits.
+ Strong team-working skills.
+ Reasonable level of numeracy to monitor financial and performance data and a reasonable level of written communication skills to write reports.
+ Proficient in the use of MS Word and Excel packages, e-mail and the Internet.
+ Lift feed sacks, use hand tools such as spades and hand saws for sustained periods, drive a power boat on rescue work, walk for at least three miles, and undertake manual conservation management and general maintenance tasks.
+ A valid driving licence as you will be driving a company vehicle onsite.
