Full Job Description

We are looking for a highly skilled and outstanding Nurse Practitioner to join the Same Day Emergency Care Unit at Friarage Hospital as our ward/ unit manager. This role will involve 60% management of the service and 40% clinical contribution., The Ward/ Unit manager within SDEC will also practice as a nurse practitioner within the department. They will continuously evaluate their role supporting the service and staff, alongside patients with complex and urgent care needs. They will work with the clinical service lead and area professional leads in partnership with local consultants, GP practices and the local PCN's to further develop services which are of value to the commissioners and meet the local needs of the population.

The post holder will be the responsible ward manager for Same Day Emergency Care unit and Outpatient Home Parental Antimicrobial Therapy service (60% time), alongside working autonomously as part of the SDEC to provide an assessment, diagnosis and undertake treatments/ interventions and care for patients with differential diagnosis by following agreed pathways (40% time). They will provide the hospital at night out of hours service, giving support to the junior medical team and the hospital site with advanced clinical skills.

The ward manager alongside the management and leadership skills will have advanced clinical skills (minimum level 6 clinical skills) in assessment and will evidence management of acute/chronic clinical conditions, multiple co-morbidities and polypharmacy, within the acute or urgent treatment centre environment, ensuring an optimum standard of patient centred care.

You will have significant post-registration experience, leadership and management experience, be a non-medical prescriber and have advanced clinical skills to help you effectively manage patients in the Same Day Emergency Care Unit.

Experience of working within an emergency assessment unit or urgent treatment centre would be an advantage and we encourage informal visits to the area.
