Full Job Description

· Collecting and analyzing samples

· Conducting research and trials into the production , harvest and storage of wildflower seed

· Ensuring compliance with stewardship schemes etc across the whole farm and keeping abreast of changes in legislative requirements

· Advising customers and developing products to meet biodiversity net gain requirements, As a Wildflower Development Specialist at Harrowden Turf, your role is multifaceted, with a focus on critical aspects of sustainable plant production. The specifics:

Pollination Expertise:

· You'll explore the intricate world of pollination-how plants interact with their pollinators (bees, butterflies, etc.) to ensure successful reproduction.

· Investigate the impact of pollination on crop yield, genetic diversity, and ecosystem health.

Biodiversity Champion:

· Dive into biodiversity schemes-strategies to enhance the variety of life within ecosystems.

· Collaborate with ecologists and conservationists to design habitats that support diverse plant and animal species.

· Consider the role of native plants and wildflower meadows in promoting biodiversity.

Product Development Innovator:

· Your expertise will shape the future of our products and provide solutions for our clients needs.

· Explore novel varieties, disease-resistant strains, and climate-adapted cultivars.

Sustainable Practices Advocate:

· Champion sustainable farming methods.

· Investigate soil health, water conservation, and nutrient cycling.

· Propose eco-friendly solutions for turf and wildflower production.

Educator and Adviser:

· Share your knowledge with colleagues, scheme designers and clients.

· Educate them on the importance of pollinators, biodiversity, and sustainable practices.

· Empower others to make informed decisions for a greener future.

Germination & Propagation Testing and Quality Assurance:

· Conduct germination and propagation tests to assess seed viability and ensure optimal growth.

· Monitor seed quality and recommend improvements in seed production processes.

In this role, you'll also be at the forefront of advancing turf science, ensuring that Harrowden Turf remains a leader in environmentally conscious agriculture.

If so, you might be the perfect fit for our Wildflower Development Specialist position at Harrowden Turf, the UK's leading turf, wildflower and sedum grower. You will join our expert team of growers at our Norfolk farm, where you will enjoy working in a natural and beautiful environment. This is a new and exciting role that offers plenty of opportunities for learning and growth.

This role is ideal for someone who has recently graduated or has a few years of experience in horticulture, botany, or a related field. You must be willing to work outdoors in a farm environment and have a keen interest in plants and nature., A relevant qualification in any of the following or similar:

· Bachelor's Degree in Horticulture

· Diploma in Horticulture

· Level 5 or above qualification in Botany

Knowledge / skills

· Plant health

· Soil & water management

· Pollination and germination

· Excellent communication

· Excellent problem solving

· Ability to organise, analyse, interpret, and evaluate scientific data

· Experience with field data collection, data review, and preparation of technical documents

· Knowledge of wildflowers

· Ability to understand and interpret current legislation such as Biodiversity Net Gain guidance, Please note this role requires a level of overtime to meet business requirements. Driving license essential. You must have your own transport for this position due to lack of public transport near to the farm sites and the requirement to be very flexible with working times and locations.

Remuneration: Competitive and in-line with experience
- 28 days holiday including bank holidays. 20 days paid at an enhanced rate to include average overtime.
