Full Job Description

As Workshop Manager, you are responsible for supporting the Store Manager in the daily business operations of the store. General tasks include supervising employees, communicating with, and helping customers and carrying out directives given by the Store Manager, or in their absence Area Manager. This role will include working one day at the weekend., · To understand and meet weekly labour targets.

· Oversee trial days within the workshop and be included in the interview process.

· Managing daily repair workload and delegating to team of mechanics/bike builders ensuring high quality of work.

· Constant review on tooling needs and condition of existing tools

· Training and development of Mechanic and Bike Builders to company expectations.

· Motivate and engage team on daily basis.

· Workshop calendar management and monitoring lead times to ensure growth of customer base and workshop efficiency.

· Diagnosing/identifying problems for accurate service and repair.

· Be able to provide guidance on labour pricing structure to all colleague in store.

· Ability to form quotes for repair within a customer's budget.

· The ability to carry out all types of servicing at the most professional level.

· To work in conjunction with Store Manager on the Rota to ensure the right coverage of workshop staff across the working week.

· Keep the workshop stocked with service items, cables, cleaning products and PPE.

· A high level of product knowledge, knowing supplier brands and use of B2B websites.

· Keep presentation of workshop to Balfe's high standards and workshop team adhere to this.

· Knowledge of POS systems, to be able to contact customers to arrange bike collections, via email, SMS or phone.

· Work in a safe and efficient manner and adhere to all company policies and procedures relating to Health and Safety.

· Our Workshop Managers are required to follow company training plans which are provided in house and on behalf of our suppliers.

· Dealing with boxed bikes on a daily basis, unpacking, storing and adequately dealing with cardboard waste and recycling.

· To make all customers feel welcome and solve issues in a professional, friendly manner.

  • Cytech 2 & 3/equivalent qualifications.

  • Brand specific training.

  • 4 years+ experience of working as a mechanic a within a professional high paced environment.

  • Previous Workshop Manager experience

  • Great Communication Skills/Organisation

  • Customer Service/Phone Manner.

  • Leadership skills

  • The ability to lift and deal with bikes 25kg+, Do you have experience in the Cycling Industry? Are you a cyclist yourself?

  • Are you able to lift and deal with bikes 25kg+?

  • Do you have a cytech qualification?


  • Experience:
  • Bike Mechanic: 2 years (preferred)
